MEDITATION - the search for wholeness

We tend to think of our sensory experiences as real and tangible, because we feel them and we consider our feelings as (mostly) trustworthy. But all of our sensory perceptions are as impermanent as clouds; feelings, thoughts, memories, sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch, mental conditions - they all come and go, more or less. After thinking about this for a while you may begin to wonder: 'is there anything truly permanent and tangible that we can rely on, with absolute cetainty?' The answer is 'yes' and people experience 'it' directly every day, though no tangible memory can ever be found.

There is a form of meditation practice known as Vipassana, which literally means 'in-sight practice' that has supported people for thousands of years in their seach for permanence, for absolute truth. With insight meditation we open our minds to the way things are, experiencing the simple truth that is hidden within everything.

Authentic practice of yoga and meditation are the tools for living in harmony, free from confusion and illusion. Meditation opens the mind in order that we may 'see' beyond our mind, even beyond our sub-conscious mind, into our unconditional nature. Being awake to the unconditional aspect of our nature is not a matter of becoming that way, but actually being that way right now. The truth exists within all of us, now and always - the path of 'seeking for wholeness' is infact a circle - we come back to where we started, only to realise that unconditional reality was here all the time, even before we began to seek answers to our deepest questions.

Meditation pactice is capable of freeing us from our habitual belief in the appearance of things, including our emotional attachment / aversion to people, things, events, ideas. Experiencing our unconditioned essence is the aim of yoga and meditation. With practice we find that changing thoughts and impressions cannot disturb the pure and simple delight of our unconditional nature.

Meditation is not about analysing to find some conclusions about life. By simply keeping the mind continuously focused on the sensations of your body (e.g. breathing), a 'witnessing presence' becomes evident (to no-one) and this sense may deepen into that of essence, of inner wisdom, of unconditional presence. This is the 'Open Secret' that you are meant to discover - it is the goal of life.
